Our Caput Mortuum is a beautiful, very granular maroon-violet, perfect for creating wet washes with an interesting granular quality. Use this colour to create shadows in landscapes, and to convey texture in botanicals, wildlife, and pet portraits.
Artist Notes: Caput Mortuum is a wonderful choice in landscapes where textural effects are desired. This moody colour is ideal for dusky scenes.
Paint Maker’s Notes: From Latin for ‘Dead Head’, Caput Mortuum pigment can range in colour from dull red-violet, to deep, dark earthy brown-violet.
