Our experienced instructors are known for their generosity, knowledge, and willingness to help others. Beginners and intermediate artists are welcome. Programs cover a wide range of media such as watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastel, drawing, printmaking and Specialty topics include portrait, figure and landscape painting or drawing.

Acrylic Painting 1 J.Dudley $325.00
This class runs from January 14th to March 11th, on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm – 9:00pm (8 classes – No class Feb 14th). If this class is full, you may phone us at 306 653 1900 to add your name to a wait list.
The elements of art including line, shape, form, space, texture, value, and colour will be explored using a reduced palette. We will focus on a particular element each night while painting a still life. Brushes, mediums, surfaces, and composition will be discussed. The focus of the class is to become comfortable using paint and brushes. The needs of each student will help form the direction of the course. Acrylic paint will be the medium used for teaching purposes. If you prefer to use another type of paint, please consult the instructor prior to class.

Drawing&Design Basics A Donald

Drawing is foundational for any creative approach to making art. The basics of drawing creatively will be explored through using the elements and principles of design. The subject matter will include magnification of natural objects, still life, portraiture, perspective, landscape, and figure drawing. A variety of drawing media will be used for experimentation. Drawing techniques such as gesture, contour, and shading will be used to develop concepts that can lead to multi-dimensional artistic practices.

Creating a portrait that captures the essence of a person requires a specific set of skills that include keen observation, understanding of facial anatomy and openness to life energy. These skills can be learned and practiced, improving drawn and painted portraits, while preserving personal style. Work in your choice of medium from photos and live models.

Intro to Gouache/WC Class J. Bidyk

The exciting world of gouache/watercolour painting can be used to explore colour, mark making, and many drawing & painting techniques. This class is a great introduction to various gouache & watercolour approaches, such as flat wash, gradient wash, dry brush, wet on dry, wet on wet, glazing and layering techniques. While exercising gouache/watercolour as a medium, we will also be covering fundamental elements of art, including line, volume perspective, texture transparency and colour theory. My goal as the instructor is to create a fun, easy-going environment for learning and to ignite our most creative selves.
Experienced painters are also welcome to join the class.

Abstract art is all about capturing the essence of a subject without detailed realism. Flowers are the perfect subject for abstract painting.
This abstract watercolor flowers classes will demonstrate a technique that is a simple and cost-effective way to experiment with watercolor painting and is guaranteed to give you fabulous results! We will explore some popular watercolour techniques: Wet on Wet, Wet on Dry & Glazing. Discussions will take place on Color Theory & Composition & Focal Points.

Landscape Painting, A Montgomery $225.00

In this introduction to landscape painting, students with some experience with the watercolor medium will create several paintings. In the process of learning about landscape elements, students will also explore the concept of working en plein air, review colour theory, and practice elements of composition including cropping, creating a focal point, and working with natural light. Each class will feature critique. discussion and demonstration.
This class is also suitable for other mediums such as acrylic or mixed media.

Collage, Contrast, Composition & Colour with Confidence
This course will introduce some playful ways to approach drawing, painting and mixed media, while reinforcing fundamental art principles of composition and design.
Starting with contrast, we’ll create unique collage papers to build simple compositions, helping you identify what works and where to improve. Gradually introducing complexity, and colour, you’ll explore cropping, masking, and greyscale techniques to refine compositions, monitor progress, and develop confidence in your creative process with curiosity and clarity.
This class is suitable for all levels of creative experience, because the goal is primarily to help you find your own creative voice while building your level of confidence and joy no matter your subiect or choice of media.

This class is designed for people with some painting experience. There will be a still-life set up for those who are interested, but class members may also work from their own imagination, or their own photographs. There will be discussions about colour theory and all the principles of art and design as the class progresses. Degen offers encouragement and practical information, and makes suggestions about the paintings being created.

Pen&Ink, Watercolor 1 J. Anderson

This course will teach students introductory techniques with ink, drawing and watercolour painting. We will review the use of brushes, pens & paper and study composition, design and colour theory. Students will work on a variety of weekly exercises and create finished artworks. Students are also encouraged to incorporate mixed media in their work through subject matter ranging from realistic to illustrative. Experienced artists are welcome to join the class.

Portrait Drawing with A. Rinas

Portrait drawing is a means of describing an individual in a very unique way—a personal, visual representation of a moment in time of an artist and sitter. As the artist works to understand the relationships of the landmarks that compose an individual and render them in their likeness they also reveal a side of themselves otherwise never seen. In this class, we will work with live models and cover everything from skin to skeleton. We will work to develop the skills to analyze what we are seeing when we look at a person and render it accordingly. The class is open to and can benefit all skill levels from beginners to experts.
