In the Gallery

June: Anne Nordstrom - July: Blanche Johnston

It was my love of colour and paint that inspired me to learn and develop various techniques with which to express that love!

I have an ongoing desire to interpret how the Saskatchewan landscape resonates with me in order to re-experience and/or translate this to others.

Fusing many layers of encaustic medium slowly  enables this exploration and discovery.

I have painted, sketched and created pictures since I was 4 years old. It is my passion. I watched my father paint landscapes in oils as he studied the Impressionist painters, particularly Cezanne.

I am grateful to my teachers: Shirley Sergay-high school-Rhodesia, Thor Morgan Davies-Teachers’ College-Rhodesia, Iris Hauser-U. of S. Canada and Bruce Marion of Phoenix. I learned to draw in high school, create at college, appreciate colour with Iris and abstract with Bruce. I continue to learn through videos, workshops and books.

This is my 23rd Art Show as I am prolific and love to see others enjoying my creations. I have sold paintings in the U.SA. and Canada. I love colour and shape and am drawn to landscapes, flowers, animals, people and particularly abstracts. The world is beautiful and it is my pleasure to interpret it with energetic colour, shape and composition on canvas or wood in acrylic.

Africa is my theme for the show at Hues. I was born in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and spent 27 years absorbing the vivid colours and atmosphere. I have returned to Africa 12 times since leaving. My work is primarily from personal photos.
