Anne Simmie

As a child, I sat at the kitchen table and painted oil landscapes with my mother, Lois. She took lessons from Hans Herold, and I took lessons from a neighboring art teacher, Miss Andresen. As an adult I studied fine art at ACA in Calgary, where a painting prof told me my colours were too girly.

Since then I have raised a child, gotten a degree in Drama and Literature, sold furniture, and taught at Kaohsiung American School and Saskatoon Open Door.

I paint larger works in acrylic on canvas, my favoured subjects being botanicals and old vehicles. I have shown locally, at Hues, as well as other non-dedicated spaces, and the Gallery at Frances Morrison. I am a member of the Artists’ Workshop and hold my own annual Art on the Fence show in Haultain.
