Exploring Nature through Mix Media

We will explore dying and decorating papers and then applying them to a canvas to create a painting that reveals the image through layers of paint, paper and found objects. This type of work requires some planning and a thought process that will ensure the painting comes together in a cohesive way while working with different elements. Some previous painting experience is required. Collage/Mixed media can be playful, creative and a whole lot of fun! Botanical images, trees and flowers all lend themselves beautifully to this type of artmaking.

Linda Moskalyk grew up near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. Her earliest memory of learning the skills of art started as lessons in the basement of a neighbour’s house and she has been painting ever since.
By 1995 Linda became serious about creating and teaching art. For the most part she is a self taught artist who has taken the time to explore and experiment with various methods while also observing techniques of the old masters, the impressionists, and artists of the present day. Along with these observations and attending a variety of workshops a transition in her creative style took place. Her work morphed from one form to another until she has comfortably settled into her favourite style of mixed media using dyed papers, acrylic paint, and found objects from nature.
Her love of nature and her occupation as an arborist has provided her with the familiarity and motivation to paint the natural environment. The expressions of painted trees and other forms of nature are meant to create awareness of the environment for the protection of our forests and natural areas.
Linda’s curiosity of the world and interest in travel resulted in the opportunity for an artist residency at the Julia and David White Artist Colony in Costa Rica in 2009. One thing led to another and she now has her own studio in the tropical rain forests and divides her life and creative time between Canada and Costa Rica.
Her work can be found in private collections around the world. France, Germany, U.S., United Kingdom, South Africa, Belgium, Costa Rica and Canada are all homes to her paintings.

This heavy-weight mixed media paper is available in warm tan, cool gray and steel blue and is toned specifically for use with light and dark media. It also combines the characteristics of a watercolor paper and the finish of a drawing sheet, creating a paper that performs for all wet and dry media. It’s the perfect hybrid of two of our most loved papers: 400 Series Toned Sketch and 400 Series Mixed Media. Flip-over covers feature sheets that stay in the pad yet tear out cleanly.
