An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Friday, repeating until March 15, 2024

This class runs from January 19th until March 15th, on Friday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:30 pm (8 classes, no class Feb 16th). If this class is full, you may phone us at 306 653 1900 to add your name to a wait list.

In this course, students will introduced to a range of styles and experimental approaches to landscape painting using acrylics, acrylic medium, ink and mixed media. We will explore a variety of acrylic methods with a focus on landscape, organic forms from nature and related abstracted experimental compositions.   We will examine methods for creating studies of skies, clouds, and various depictions of the land, trees, and skies.   Diverse methods of experimenting with acrylic, mixed media along with perspective and colour theory will be explored. Exemplars of well-known Canadian and International landscape painters will be discussed.

 

Supply List

• Brushes: A variety of acrylic brushes, either synthetic or hog hair bristles (ranging in size from 2-12).

• Palette knives: 1-3 palette knives (either plastic or metal).

• Acrylic Paint: Golden is recommended, but if the expense is too much, buy another brand.

o Alizarin Crimson

o Quinacridone Magenta

o Ultramarine Blue

o Cobalt Blue

o Burnt Umber

o Payne’s Grey

o Burnt Sienna

o Naples Yellow

o Yellow Ochre

• Paint palette: A large palette (around 12×16 inches). You can purchase plastic, metal, or ceramic palettes at any local art store

• Bead or Craft Box to divide colours of paint and sponges

• White Gesso: 33 oz container.

• Acrylic gel medium: Satin Glazing Medium, Matt Medium and Gloss Medium

• Cotton Rags.

• Sponges

• Masking tape

• Watercolour Paper (130 lb. minimum)

• A number of 8.5” x 11” hard surfaces (like matt board) to tape on watercolour paper.

• Photos of Prairie Landscapes that you have taken or friends have taken.

• Visits to the land to take photos and enjoy the land.

• Plein Air Painting if possible as part of your homework. This means going out into the land and painting on the spot, either in your car or outside of your vehicle. You will need a stool and all your art supplies and water.
