Shelby Lund

Meet Shelby

Shelby Lund is an emerging visual artist from Saskatoon, Canada, who works primarily in painting, analogue photography and installation practices. Central to her creative process is the

act of physical exploration, where regular walks in woodland areas and time spent in water serve as important sensory experiences. It is these lived moments of intuitively connecting with the specific environments that she comes into contact with that Shelby transcribes. In this way, Shelby’s artwork is a visual record of her own physical body in relationship to the planetary system we live within. Through her artwork, Shelby brings attention to the value of bodily knowledge, along with the importance of our relationship to nature in our collective desire to live a more meaningful, connected, and vibrant life.

Shelby received her BFA with great distinction from the University of Saskatchewan in 2015, and her MFA from the same institution in 2023. Shelby is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, with the most notable being the BMO 1st Art! prize and the SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship. Shelby has shown provincially in projects at the Art Gallery of Swift Current, Mann Art Gallery, AKA artist-run, and PAVED Arts. She has also exhibited nationally in juried exhibitions at the Byward Market Gallery, Justina M. Barnicke Gallery, and John. B. Aird Gallery. Outside her studio practice, Shelby works as a sessional painting instructor at the University of Saskatchewan.
