Ahmad Touqani
Join us for the Artist Reception February 7 2-4pm
Ahmad Touqani arrived in Saskatoon in December 2016. He left war-torn Syria for Lebanon and settled as a refugee. Ahmad was a teacher, artist, and graphic designer in his homeland.
In Saskatoon, Ahmad has been commissioned by SUM Theatre and has exhibited at numerous art shows and Art Nights at the Saskatoon Farmers' Market, Art in the Studio at Midtown Plaza, MCC Relief Sale Festival Artisan, Broadway Street Fair, Saskatchewan Blue Cross, Gardenscape, Backyard Living Show, "Unity in Diversity", showcased artists in 2024. Ahmad is a passionate communicator and artist driven to share the beauty of the ancient city of Damascus and other parts of his homeland.
Ahmad has also been deeply affected by the Saskatchewan landscape, which now forms part of his artistic repertoire. Ahmad uses a variety of media, including oil, watercolor, and acrylic. The subjects of these paintings are landscapes of Saskatchewan, painted from memory and life. Ahmad's wish is for more people in Saskatoon and other Canadians to be exposed to his unique perspective and color palette, which will help people to understand the differences and connections between people, places, and communities.
My journey from Syria to Saskatoon was inspiring for me. My ability to blend the beauty of my homeland with the Saskatchewan landscape must create a unique and captivating body of work. It's wonderful that I'm using my art techniques to bridge cultural gaps and share my perspective with the community.
"To be successful in art, you need to love it, live it, and feel it."
Thank you for your time
Ahmad Touqani
