Rolf Krohn

Rolf Krohn was born in 1939 in Consort, Alberta. He studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design (then the Alberta Provincial Institute of Technology and Art) in the late 1950s. After coming to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Krohn spent 20 years as an instructor with Saskatoon Bridge City Painters. He has also led painting workshops and given lectures in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and continues to act as a mentor for other artists. Many of his former students are now successful practicing professional artists.

Krohn's work in watercolour, acrylic, and oil features a variety of subject matter, including the human figure, portraits, wildlife, and Saskatchewan's northern landscape. Drawn to colour and shape, Krohn enjoys experimentation in his work. He has exhibited in many solo and group shows, and in public and private galleries in Yellowknife, Edmonton, Cochrane, and Saskatoon.

At the age of 87, Rolf continues his daily painting schedule. He currently resides in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have painted the landscape for over 5 decades. I also canoe-guided up north for several years. During that time I have seen the constant lack, by man, of "cherishing" both the pristine wilderness and the beauty of the prairies. Our province is being destroyed by our seeming inability to comprehend the damage our actions cause. Litter abounds, forests burn, floods occur, habitat destroyed, all because we do not listen and learn. This is my plea: "Cherish the landscape: soon it will be gone."
