The E&M Sketch Clutch Pencil is a substantial 5.5 mm lead holder made in Germany, combining a shaped wooden body with metal fittings. The thick graphite lead offers the expressive character of a graphite stick with the control and convenience of a reusable holder. A special sharpener designed for the 5.5 mm lead is built into the end of the pencil, so the lead can be quickly brought back to a drawing point while you work.

Artists can use the 5.5 mm lead on its point for controlled lines and details, or work with the side of the exposed lead to create broad strokes, shading and tonal areas. It is particularly well suited to sketching, life drawing, loose gestural work and larger drawings where varied marks and quick changes in value are important.

The clutch mechanism allows the lead to be extended as needed and replaced when it is used up, while the shaped wooden barrel provides a comfortable grip for drawing. Made by E&M in Germany, a manufacturer of wooden writing instruments since 1899.
