Maressa Wesolowski & Laddie Sr. Wesolowski
Join us for the Artist Reception May 9th 2-4pm
Father and daughter artists Laddie Sr. Wesolowski and Marlessa Wesolowski have shared a creative dialogue for decades. Rooted in prairie landscapes and a deep commitment to artistic expression, their studio practices are both independent and intertwined reflecting their live’s exchange of inspiration.
From sweeping landscapes to expressive abstraction, their work moves across geography and generations, exploring the emotional and elemental connections between land, memory, and imagination.
Vladimir “Laddie Sr.” Wesolowski
Born in 1944, Vladimir “Laddie Sr.” Wesolowski is a Saskatoon-based artist and musician whose creative life has unfolded across music, hair design, and visual art. He began painting in the 1980s - encouraging and inspiring his daughter’s own artistic journey along the way.
Over time, his work evolved from detailed realism into bold abstract expressionism, while remaining deeply connected to the landscapes that shaped him: the open prairie, mountain horizons, and distant seascapes.
Working primarily in oil with palette knife and brush, Laddie Sr. paints with an intuitive rhythm influenced by nature, memory, and music. Before dedicating himself fully to painting as his main artistry, he toured throughout Saskatchewan with The Wesolowski Band playing guitar, accordion, and vocals, meanwhile producing The Wesolowski Family presents Ukrainian Party Music Album, which continues to be featured on CJWW Saturday Night Old Time Dance Party. He also co-founded the Hairstyle Inns in Saskatoon and Prince Albert. His work has been exhibited in Saskatchewan galleries such as St. Thomas More College Art Gallery, University of Saskatchewan and is in numerous private collections.
Laddie Sr.’s art reflects a life of exploration - where music, movement, and memory merge on the canvas.
Marlessa A Wesolowski
Marlessa Wesolowski’s expressive paintings explore ecology and the human condition through oil and acrylic on linen and canvas. Rooted in colour and symbolic form, her recent work explores how we inhabit and transform the living world.
Her paintings invite reflection on resilience, healing, and the delicate balance between humanity and the natural environment.
A socially engaged artist, Marlessa co-founded the Healing Arts Program at St. Paul’s Hospital and has served as artist-in-residence since its conception in 2005. Her work has been exhibited at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada and is held in the Canadiana Fund Crown Collection, as well as private collections across North America.
Through painting, she creates spaces where art becomes an invitation to feel, to question, and to reconnect.
