I am a latecomer to painting, starting during a winter holiday in 2013. I have been abundantly fortunate in my life. I have pursued numerous careers, often unrelated, from which I have been exposed to different lifestyles and interests and skillsets. Life has taken me from the small farm of my childhood to which I returned in my first attempt at farming; to the small prairie city where I attended university and later worked for First Nations peoples and where I now live; to villages in Ghana, West Africa which I made home two times and many years apart. All of this is reflected in my painting, whether through choice of subject matter or through the emotions which emerge. As my ability has improved, my painting has become an important expression in my life. The subject matter I choose is eclectic, from waterfalls in West Africa to rivers and lakes on the prairies of Turtle Island; from photographs taken years ago to ones shot just this week. I started as a self-taught painter, then in 2020 I enrolled in Open Studio offered by Hues Art Supplies, under the tutelage of well-known artist, Degen Lindner. With encouragement and advice from Degen and fellow students and with increasing my time at the easel, my painting has improved. I do hope that folks will find some of my work which resonates with them.
