Gail Lapointe

Meet Gail

Gail Lapointe is a self-taught artist who has been painting for more than 40 years. What began as a childhood escape grew into a lifelong passion for painting. After exploring drawing, acrylics and oils, she discovered watercolour—a medium whose versatility and beauty continue to inspire her today.

As an instructor, Gail enjoys sharing both her successes and the challenges she has experienced along the way. Her goal is simple: to help students feel comfortable, build confidence and enjoy the creative process.

"I'd like them to have fun, gain confidence and celebrate their successes."

Looking Closely

Whether she's painting a bird, a landscape or a simple still life, Gail begins by slowing down and truly observing her subject. She encourages her students to look beyond what they think they see and discover the small details that bring a painting to life.

"I enjoy sharing the challenges I experienced with the class. I hope to make it less intimidating for them."

Embracing the Unexpected

Although watercolour is Gail's favourite medium, she enjoys exploring new materials and techniques. She encourages her students to experiment, reminding them that every painting is another opportunity to learn rather than something that has to be perfect.

"It's fun to experiment by including other mediums."

A Love for Watercolour

Watercolour became Gail's favourite medium because it continually offers something new to discover. She embraces its spontaneity, allowing colour, water and light to work together in ways that can never be completely predicted.

"Once I discovered watercolours, it became my favourite medium."

Every artist remembers what it feels like to begin. Gail's goal is to create a welcoming environment where students can experiment, ask questions and enjoy the process of learning. Whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or returning to watercolour after many years, her classes are built on encouragement, patience and shared discovery.

"I'd like them to have fun, gain confidence and celebrate their successes."
