In this intermediate level class, we will delve deeper into natural subject matter, using an intuitive approach to explore abstract art, landscapes and florals with greater complexity and intention.
Building on foundational skills, we’ll focus on creating larger, more ambitious works while refining your personal artistic voice.
This class is perfect for those with prior experience in painting who have a basic understanding of color mixing and are ready to push their skills further. It is less about mastery and more about expanding your confidence and capabilities as an artist.

Acrylic Landscape w/A.Donald

In this course, students will introduced to a range of styles and experimental approaches to landscape painting using acrylics, acrylic medium, ink and mixed media. We will explore a variety of acrylic methods with a focus on landscape, organic forms from nature and related abstracted experimental compositions. We will examine methods for creating studies of skies, clouds, and various depictions of the land, trees, and skies. Diverse methods of experimenting with acrylic, mixed media along with perspective and colour theory will be explored. Exemplars of well-known Canadian and International landscape painters will be discussed.

Drawing is foundational for any creative approach to making art. The basics of drawing creatively will be explored through using the elements and principles of design. The subject matter will include magnification of natural objects, still life, portraiture, perspective, landscape, and figure drawing. A variety of drawing media will be used for experimentation. Drawing techniques such as gesture, contour, and shading will be used to develop concepts that can lead to multi-dimensional artistic practices.

En Plein Air Workshop w/ C. Code
This workshop is on Sunday, June 8th from 10am to 3pm. If this class is full, you may phone us at 306 653 1900 to add your name to a wait list.
Plein air painting is the most valuable and rewarding exercise you can do to improve your work. There are limitations to painting from photograph and this class will take you straight to the source to gather the information you need to better understand the landscape. Christine will help you make sense of the chaos outdoors and teach you the fundamentals: choosing a site, composition, simplifying the landscape, average color, judging values, etc.
We will start with a quick demo indoors, break for lunch, and then head outside to paint plein air. I will spend plenty of one on one time with each participant outdoors.

Exploring Oil Painting, A. Rinas $225.00

This class is designed for those with some experience in art and is an introduction to oil paint. Oil paint has some qualities specific to it that are unlike other forms of painting. Over the duration of the classes, we will discuss colour theory and composition, and students will become familiar with the materials used and practice a variety of application techniques.
