Relief printing is one of the oldest and most straightforward forms of printmaking. A printing block is created by cutting away everything that is not to be printed and then the remaining surface is inked and printed through pressure onto paper. Unlike other printmaking mediums, relief printing can be done all by hand, eliminating the need for expensive equipment.

In this class, students will learn how to carve linoleum and wood blocks and then print them by hand. Students will be instructed on how to print in black & white as well as in colour. Other related printmaking techniques covered in the class include chine collie, printing on textiles, and drypoint. At the end of the class, students will have the opportunity to participate in a print exchange with each other and the instructor.
